La Oroya PeruNext Tuesday, HDNet is running a television special on American billionaire Ira Rennert, and all that his factories have done for La Oroya, Peru. Namely, raising the levels of lead, arsenic and cadmium in childrens’ blood by contaminating all of the ground around the metal processing and lead smelting plant. When Rennert bought the factory, it was under a contract that ensured the Peruvian government he would clean it up and bring it up to modern safety standards. But, according to HD Net, very little has changed, and every day the community becomes more and more threatened by the contamination in the soil. Keep an eye out next Tuesday for this investigative report.
